Eleanor Merrill Scholar on the Future of Journalism and Professor of the Practice

Tom Rosenstiel, former executive director of the American Press Institute, joined the Philip Merrill College of Journalism in fall 2021. He was appointed to the rank of Professor of the Practice in August 2023.

Rosenstiel, who left API after leading the organization since 2013, is one of the world’s most recognized thought leaders about journalism, media, technology, and the intersection of media and politics. The author of 12 books, including four novels, he teaches courses on the role of journalism in a democracy, the art of the interview, media innovation, and the intersection of media and politics.
